More Sun and Fun From Gary/Chicago Airport
Gary, In. - Effective May 12th, Southeast Airlines will add Orlando/Sanford to their destinations served from the Gary/Chicago International Airport with five (5) weekly flights. Southeast Airlines started service to St. Petersburg/Tampa, Florida on February 25th with four (4) weekly flights. On May 12th, Southeast will increase frequency to six (6) flights per week.
A press conference and celebration is being held at the Gary/Chicago International Airport terminal at 5pm on Wednesday, May 12. Mayor Scott L. King, City of Gary, and the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority will greet Sanford Mayor Brady Lessard who will be flying on the Southeast inaugural flight due to arrive at 4:50pm and returning on the 5:50pm flight. Mayor King states, "Southeast has witnessed a strong start up of air passenger service from the Gary/Chicago airport to the St. Pete/Tampa area. Southeast's decision to add additional flights to Orlando/Sanford will very likely follow a similar pattern. We have experience with Orlando/Sanford, and numbers show it is a destination in demand by the travelers of this region. We appreciate Mayor Lessard's efforts to initiate dialogue between the two cities. It demonstrates a solid commitment from the City of Sanford.
"The response to Southeast's air service from Gary/Chicago Airport is evident. If you are looking for a carefree, non-congested environment and reasonable air fares, then Gary/Chicago Airport is what you are looking for. Sanford/Orlando airport offers a similar environment with easy access to Orlando, it's attractions as well as Daytona and it's beaches," states Mary Jo Hoday, Vice President of Marketing for Southeast Airlines. Hoday adds "Southeast has been embraced by a community that truly stands firm behind a commitment."
